STATUS: PRE-PRODUCTION
Synopsis:
In 1996, after a race riot on the yard of New Folsom State Prison ended in a fatality, a men’s support group was formed.
Within the steel walls of the prison, men of different races, beliefs and walks of life came together. They shared stories of abuse they endured, crimes they committed and trauma that haunted them.
Through the bravery and vulnerability of these men and the safe space they created, the long road of healing began. They learned that prison begins inside the mind and that freedom is possible for those brave enough to take it.
From The Director:
“Film and travel have been the greatest teachers of my life. Having visited 44 countries and been a cinephile of world cinema, I’ve learned about compassion, empathy, gratitude, how other cultures suffer and thrive.
My award-winning directorial debut Equal Playing Field - currently streaming on Apple TV and Amazon - follows 30 female soccer players from 30 different countries who summit Mt. Kilimanjaro and descend to the Dead Sea in Jordan to play the highest and lowest elevation games on record. It took immense resilience and passion to get this important story out in the world. I’m beyond grateful to the inspiring women who trusted me with their powerful stories.
Inside Circle is the perfect sophomore follow up to that adventure. In my effort to illuminate the challenges women face on their quest for equality, we must also shine a lens on the patriarchal pressures that have weighed down upon men since the formation of our society. We must turn inward, listen, be vulnerable and accountable in order to confront the shadows that hold us back from true equity and inclusion.
I am very aware and deeply grateful for my privilege and want to use that privilege to lift up humanity through storytelling. My hope with Inside Circle is that it educates and inspires us to open our eyes further to the injustices that permeate our culture, and to shine a light on some of the brave warriors fighting to change it.”
